Applications:Mode of action Insecticide with stomach action. Following ingestion, the epithelial cells of the gut are damaged by the endotoxin, insects quickly stop feeding and eventually starve to death. Uses The subspecies of B.thuringiensis which do not contain beta-exotoxin are microbial insecticides effective only against larvae of many Lepidoptera, Diptera and Coleoptera species. Its specificity to pests, combined with safety to man and the natural enemies of crop pests, make it suitable for use in pest management. Because the bacteria do not spread, it is important to treat the parts of the plant normally attacked by insect larvae, or zones of water in which Diptera larvae feed. It is used on cotton, ornamentals, pome fruit, stone fruit, vines, tomatoes, olives, soyabeans, tobacco, vegetables and forests.

Toxicology:Very slight inhalation irritation observed in test animals, probably due to the physical rather than the biological properties of the B.thuringiensis formulation..
